1. How do I have a stray dog or cat picked up?

If the animal is at large within the city limits of Miami, call the animal shelter at 918-542-6384. If you feel that the situation is an emergency, you may call the police department.

2. How can I check to see if my pet has been put in the animal shelter?

Call the Animal Shelter at 918-542-6384, leave a good description of your pet, and Animal Control will return your call as quickly as possible. Animals that are picked up are also frequently posted on the City of Miami's Facebook page.

3. What can I do about a vicious animal?

If there is a vicious animal at large within the city limits of Miami, call the police department at 918-542-5585. They will get into contact with an animal control officer to safely apprehend the animal.

4. What is the procedure for animals that are neglected?

If you witness an animal that appears to be neglected, please notify animal control at 918-542-6384. The animal control officers will do a welfare check to assess the situation and contact the owner(s). See City Ordinance, Article IV. Sec. 4-100 for Treatment and care of animals.

5. How do I adopt an animal from the animal shelter?

There is a $25.00 adoption fee that must be paid upon adopting an animal. Prior to adoption, an appointment must be made with a veterinarian of your choice to have the animal vaccinated and spayed/neutered within a week of adoption date. Some form of proof must be provided that the animal has been seen by the vet, i.e. receipt or otherwise confirmation from the vet office.

6. How do I surrender an animal to the animal shelter?

Animals can be dropped off at the animal shelter for a surrender fee of $25.00.

7. Will animal control pick up wild animals?

If there is a wild animal on your property, such as a raccoon, opossum, etc., animal control has rodent traps that may be used in assisting to catch and relocate the animal.

There is a volunteer form that must be filled out and signed at the Public Works Dept. at 815 D NE.

Yes, you can donate supplies or monetary donations at the Public Works Dept. at 815 D NE.
