Floodplain

Overview

The City of Miami is a member of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The intent of the NFIP is to protect the natural functions of the floodplain and to educate and inform the public of risks to lives and properties from potential flooding. The NFIP provides the maps and regulatory basis for local floodplain management. It is also the primary source of insurance protection for flood prone properties. All development within the floodplain requires a Floodplain Development Permit.
